Pennsylvania Climate Change Webinar Series

Climate Change in Pennsylvania— How Will it Impact You?

Sponsored by Pennsylvania Sea Grant with funding support from NOAA's Sector Applications Research Program (SARP)

This series of three webinars was geared to help Pennsylvania citizens stay informed on issues related to climate change. The webinars focused on various aspects of climate
change including its potential impacts on the Commonwealth’s ecosystem, economy, and Lake Erie. Live webinars are free and open to the public, however registration is required. Or view any of our archived webinars below.

Each webinar runs approximately one hour, including a “Question and Answer” period.
Members of state and local agencies, non‐governmental organizations, academia, and any citizen interested in learning more about this topic are invited to participate.

October 26, 2010                                                                                                                                                                 The Ecological Impacts of Climate Change on North American Forests Speaker: Dr. Marc Abrams, Penn State University

Dr. Abrams is a professor of forest ecology and physiology at Penn State University in the School of Forest Resources. He received his masters of Science and Ph.D. at Michigan State University. His academic interests include distrub ecology, old growth forests, tree physiology and vegetation classification.

Climate Change Impacts on Public Beach Access, Beach Ownership, and Riparian Erosion
Speaker: Stephanie Showalter (Director, National Sea Grant Law Center)

Stephanie Showalter is the director of the National Sea Grant Law Center. She received her bachelor's degree in history from Penn State University, and also holds a joint J.D./Master's of Studies in Environmental Law degree from Vermont Law School. As director, Stephanie advises Sea Grant constituents on ocean and coastal law issues, researches and publishes papers on natural resources, marine, and environmental law issues, and supervises law student research and writing projects. She also currently serves as the editor of the Sea Grant Law and Policy Journal.

 Pennsylvania's Changing Climate—Trends and Impacts 
Speaker: Dr. James Shortle (Penn State University)

James S. Shortle is a Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Environmental Economics in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, and Director of the Environment and Natural Resources Institute, in the College of Agricultural Sciences, Penn State University.  He received a PhD in Economics from Iowa State University in 1981 and been on the faculty at Penn State since 1981.  His current research focuses on the design of economic incentives and markets to achieve environmental goals and sustainability, environmental policy for agriculture, and the impacts of climate change on agriculture, human health and water resources.
