Holzhausen & Creed Properties

Holzhausen PropertyFunding for the placement of a conservation easement on 32.6 acres including 1/4 mile of Lake Erie bluff and shoreline, and 1/4 mile along the Seaway Trail (PA Rte. 5), was approved on June 21, 2005. The total appraised value of the conservation easement on this property is $398,650. PA Sea Grant prepared a grant application on behalf of LERC for $196,000 of which $175,000 was awarded by DCNR. Subsequently, PA Sea Grant worked with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council to obtain a commitment for the remaining $21,000 from the Mellon Foundation.

PA Sea Grant also was instrumental in obtaining a commitment of $100,000 in matching funds from Erie County government. The remaining matching value is being contributed by the property owners. Efforts to finalize and record a conservation easement agreement that is acceptable to both State and the property owners is nearing completion with a closing expected in spring of 2007.
