PROJECTS:
Open Space Preservation

Jenks Property

PA Sea Grant has assisted LERC with the preparation of a grant application to acquire approximately 93 acres of land along the Seaway Trail from a private property owner. The appraised value of this property is $197,000. A grant application has been submitted to the FHWA for National Scenic Byway Program funds in the amount of $101,300. PA Sea Grant will be preparing a second application for submittal to DCNR in April 2007 for matching grant funds. This project will protect the scenic, recreational, and natural resources adjacent to the Seaway Trail National Scenic Byway.

Jenks PropertyThis acquisition will protect and enhance this natural area which serves as a buffer between lands proposed for development in local municipal plans, and State Gamelands #314. It is anticipated that, if funded, this property will be used for recreational purposes including hunting, hiking, birdwatching/nature observation, cross-country skiing, equestrian, and other low impact outdoor recreational activities.
