Sustainable Land Use Development
Pennsylvania Sea Grant staff continue to work to promote the use of a conservation design approach in new residential developments in the Erie urban area. Efforts have been made to inform local elected officials, property owners, and developers about the benefits of conservation design techniques which could be applied to specific new developments in Harborcreek and Millcreek Townships. The incorporation of conservation design language into municipal land use regulations has also been discussed with Harborcreek Township officials. The following are projects that encourage sustainable land use development:

Open Space Preservation
Pennsylvania Sea Grant staff have been actively involved in projects to preserve rural areas and promote outdoor recreation. These projects have included fee simple purchase of land as well as the acquisition of conservation easements.  Partners in these efforts include federal, state and local municipal funding sources, property owners, and local and regional land conservation organizations. The following are projects which have had the active involvement of PA Sea Grant staff:

Watershed Improvements
Pennsylvania Sea Grant staff have been involved in several projects which address water quality within Pennsylvania’s tributaries to Lake Erie. The following are projects which have had significant involvement by Sea Grant:
