Pennsylvania Sea Grant Charts Successful Path
It became official in May.
With the designation of Pennsylvania Sea Grant as an Institutional Sea Grant College Program, the national Sea Grant network now includes every coastal state. In ten short years Pennsylvania Sea Grant has become the hub for marine and coastal sciences for The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Since its establishment as a Lake Erie focused project in 1998, Pennsylvania Sea Grant has been on a steady path toward institutional designation. National Sea Grant Office leadership recognized Pennsylvania's high level of achievement related to science-based research, education, and outreach projects that promote the ecological and economic sustainability of Pennsylvania's coastal resources. The addition of the Susquehanna watershed office will soon extend Pennsylvania Sea Grant's efforts to a third key watershed in the state.
This newsletter shares events and projects, completed since the institutional designation and it demonstrates the commitment of the Pennsylvania Sea Grant team as they move forward to full Sea Grant College status.
As a new member of the Pennsylvania Sea Grant team I look forward to sharing stories about our events, projects, people and places via our Web site, including periodic e-newsletters.
