Join Pennsylvania Sea Grant in a unique education and training opportunity for 2016-2017

This opportunity is limited to 10 teachers, so act fast! Deadline for applications is Friday July 29, 2016

2015-2016 CGLL teachers studying shoreline erosion
  • Combine Great Lakes experiential science education and service learning opportunities for grades 4-12
  • Qualify for up to $1450 in teacher stipends and funds to use for student field busing, classroom materials, substitute pay (must be approved in advance)
  • Receive teacher tested Great Lakes curriculum and stewardship project ideas related to multiple watershed water quality issues, food webs, wetland and habitat restoration, emerging contaminants, invasive species, and more 
  • Use the weekly Erie Times-NIE/PA Sea Grant environment page as a resource for students so they can stay up to date on Great Lakes and Lake Erie issues and share papers with their families 
  • Highlight your student projects in the weekly Erie Times- NIE pages throughout the year 

 

Requirements for possible acceptance: 

  1. Teach in grades 4-12
  2. Completed application received by July 29, 2016
  3. Attend a full-day workshop on Saturday, October 1, 2016 (Stipend for attending)
  4. Agree to conduct a school International Coastal Cleanup and data collection as one service-learning project in Sept/Oct, 2016
  5. Conduct a second service learning project
  6. Participate in a Great Lakes Awareness Day
