Stay Safe This Summer, Learn How to Spot Harmful Algal Blooms

Pennsylvania Sea Grant, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, invites the public to a free webinar on June 25, 2026 from 12:00–1:00 PM focusing on harmful algal blooms (HABs) and their impacts on communities across the region.

Harmful algal blooms are a growing threat to waterways across Pennsylvania and in the Great Lakes region. These blooms can develop rapidly, sometimes in a matter of days, and may produce toxins that affect the skin, liver, and nervous systems of people, pets, and wildlife. They can also disrupt recreation, close beaches, and affect local economies during peak summer months. During this session, participants will learn HABs basics,  ways to recognize them, potential health and environmental risks, and practical safety tips.

Whether for boating, fishing, swimming, or shoreline recreation, this webinar will provide timely information to help communities stay informed and prepared. Bring lunch and enjoy this informative discussion!
