Educators of 3rd-12th graders are encouraged to register for Pennsylvania Sea Grant and the Center for Great Lakes Literacy’s educator professional development program – A Deeper Dive into the Great Lakes Topic: Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). This 90-minute session will include an overview of HABs, an introduction to MWEEs, a guest lecture from Dominique Derminio, Ph.D., discussion time for resource sharing, and tips for incorporating the topic with your learners.

Complete the prerequisite three-hour, asynchronous Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Great Lakes Literacy education exploration (GLLee) learning module prior to the session’s start to be eligible for this program. Note: you will need to use a personal Gmail address (i.e., not your school Gmail address) to access the module’s materials.Participate in the virtual, synchronous 90-minute HABs session.Submit the evaluation form at the end of the session.There is a $100 stipend available for Pennsylvania formal and nonformal educators for completion of the above three “What’s Involved?” items.

Once registered, participants will receive the Zoom link and other details on Monday, February 23, 2026. Space is limited, registration closes on February 13, 2026.
